Treasury Secretary summoned before CoPF over missing US$2.5 mn.

Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma has reportedly been summoned before the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) to review a Treasury report concerning the disappearance of US$2.5 million.     

According to reports, the Ministry of Finance has submitted a report of nearly 100 pages to Parliament regarding the incident. Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance, Harsha de Silva, told the media that arrangements are being made to distribute copies of the report to all committee members.

The Committee on Public Finance is scheduled to meet tomorrow (8), and Harshana Suriyapperuma has reportedly been requested to attend the meeting to answer further questions relating to the contents of the report.

He had previously appeared before the committee on 30 April together with a group of senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

During that session, committee members questioned officials regarding allegations that US$2.5 million belonging to the Sri Lankan Treasury had been transferred to a fraudulent party.

Meanwhile, when the case relating to the incident was taken up this week before Pasan Amarasena, Magistrate of the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, investigating officers informed the court that statements had been recorded from 42 individuals in connection with the matter.
