Mild tremors felt in parts of Chennai

Mild tremors were felt in parts of the city as earthquake measuring 5.1 on Richter scale struck in the Bay of Bengal, 600 km east-northeast of Chennai around 7 a.m, according to a bulletin of India Meteorological Department.

The impact of the earthquake considered of moderate intensity was felt more in areas closer to coast. However, no tsunami warning was given.

A number of Chennaiites took to social media to report they had felt tremors early this morning.
