Mannar mass grave excavation halted for ten days

The excavation of the mass grave site in Mannar, halted due to the annual Madu Feast, will recommence on August 20. Journalists who wish to cover the proceedings can take photos or video the site twice a day, morning and afternoon every day. On August 09 the Mannar Magistrate’s Court issued an order preventing journalists from entering the site as their present could impeded the investigations.

Provincial journalist, S.R. Lambert and two others however successfully petitioned the Mannar Magistrate’s Court that the order preventing journalists from entering the site was a violation of the people’s right to information. They requested the court to allow journalists twice a day.
