Mohan Silva back in the fray; SLC Election to go ahead as planned
The long-awaited Sri Lanka Cricket Election is scheduled to be held tomorrow as planned, following an agreement reached between the Mohan Silva faction and the Attorney General’s Department over the nomination of two contestants. The agreement was reached when a case filed by former SLC President Mohan Silva and former Assistant Secretary Raveen Wickramaratne was taken up for hearing before the Court of Appeal today.Nominations of Mohan Silva and Raveen Wickramaratne were rejected under Sports Ministry regulations on the grounds that the duo was removed from Sri Lanka Cricket in 2005.
However following the decision two writ petitions were filed before the Appeals Court challenging the rejection of nominations submitted by Mohan Silva and Raveen Wickramaratne for the post of Presidency and Vice Presidency. The petitions, were seeking an order to quash the decision to reject the nomination papers filed by Mohan Silva and Raveen Wickramaratne. When inquired by NewsRadio, Raveen Wickramaratne said following submissions made by his faction, a settlement was reached with officials of the Sports Ministry and the Attorney General’s Department.
Accordingly Mohan Silva has been allowed to contest for the post of Secretary while Wickramaratne is allowed to contest for the post of SLC Vice President.Meanwhile, Shammi Silva, Jayantha Dharmadasa and K Mathivanan will contest for the post of President during tomorrow’s election.Arjuna Ranatunga, Raveen Wickramaratne and Pramodya Wickramasighe are contesting for the post of Vice President while Mohan De Silva, Bandula Dissanayake and Nishantha Ranatunga will be contesting for the post of SLC secretary. The 2019 Sri Lanka Cricket Elections is scheduled be held from 10am tomorrow at the Sport Ministry premises.
