2019 general elections: DMK gives 10 seats to Congress in poll pact

The DMK and Congress have entered into a pact for the 2019 general elections with the national party getting double-digit seats.

As expected by the Congress, the DMK parted with 10 seats for its alliance partner among the 40 seats – 39 in Tamilnadu and one in Puducherry.

While DMK MP and half-sister of party president M K Stalin, Kanimozhi, conducted talks in New Delhi with Congress leaders and their president Rahul Gandhi, the final deal was signed today in Chennai.

Congress Tamilnadu in-charge Mukul Wasnik and representative K C Venugopal arrived in Chennai and signed the pact with the DMK.

Stalin and Venugopal announced the alliance at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, in the presence of Wasnik and TNCC chief K S Alagiri.

According to it, the Congress will contest from 9 seats in Tamilnadu and the lone Puducherry seat, taking its count to 10 seats.

Venugopal said his party was happy with the pact they had signed with the Dravidian major in Tamilnadu and was confident of winning in a good number of constituencies in the State to strengthen the anti-Modi and anti-BJP movement at the Centre.

When asked about the 21 Assembly seats for which by-polls have to be conducted in Tamilnadu, Stalin said the decision would be taken when the elections are announced.
