Tear gas fired to disperse protesters in Fort

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a group of protesting university students who were obstructing the Lotus Roundabout.

The protest was staged by the Inter University Students Federation against a decision by the administration of the University of South East to expel a group of students.

Police said traffic congestion was reported in and around Colombo, Fort as students engaged in the protest are still occupying the Lotus Junction.
