TN, AIADMK get ready for Jaya’s 71st birth anniversary

Tamilnadu government and the ruling AIADMK are gearing up to celebrate former Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa’s 71st birth anniversary tomorrow.

The most notable thing is expected to be the inauguration of Rs 2,000 special financial assistance scheme for people below poverty line by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Ahead of the birthday of ‘Amma’, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, the joint coordinator and the coordinator of the AIADMK, respectively, in a letter to party cadres, pledged to continue their walk on the path of Jayalalithaa.

With Lok Sabha elections around the corner, AIADMK is also using the her birthday as a platform for effective campaigning. All district, town and panchayat headquarters of the party started preparing for public meetings throughout the State a few weeks back. AIADMK recently announced celebratory events will also be conducted at AIADMK party offices in Pondicherry, New Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Kerala, Maharashtra and even Andaman Nicobar islands.

However, the party’s Lok Sabha MP S Rajendran’s unfortunate death in the wee hours today has thrown a question mark over the celebrations.

But sources said events will be cancelled in Villupuram district alone.

In a welcome departure this year, there will not be any flex boards or banners as the Madras High Court on Wednesday refused to relax its ban on registered political parties installing banners on arterial roads in or any other roads in the State.
