Karannagoda in hiding: Suspected to be in Kuruwita

The CID is said to be searching for former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda to arrest him.

He had not reported to the CID who had notified him to report to the CID office in order to record a statement from him last week. However as he failed to show up at the CID office on that date, he had been notified again to report to the CID on a later date, but he had not responded.

Therefore, the CID officers had visited Karannagoda’s residence in Kirulapone on February 21 and 22, but he had not been there.

The CID had wanted him to issue a statement regarding the abduction, torture and disappearance of 11 persons during the period 2008-2010 by the Navy, during which period he served as the Commander. It is believed that Karannagoda had been in the know about the incident for which he is expected to be arrested.

The CID has meanwhile, received information that Karannagoda is in hiding at a location in Kuruwita.
