2019 general elections: DMK likely to finalise seat-sharing today in Chennai

 DMK president M K Stalin has gone into a huddle with members of the seat-sharing committee at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, this morning.

There were two reasons that were stalling the finalising of the DMK alliance partners and the seats they would be allotted. One was the tension in the border with Pakistan and the resultant uncertainty in the country.

The second most important reason was the cat-on-the-wall attitude of the DMDK which was undecided on its stand. While it gave the indication that everything was decided and that it would join the AIADMK-BJP-PMK alliance in Tamilnadu, suddenly, the party went quiet.

It started distributing applications for all the 40 seats – indicating that it might go it alone in the 2019 general elections – and was supping with leaders of other parties at the same time.

When Congress leader S Thirunavukkarasar, actor Rajinikanth and DMK president Stalin called on DMDK founder Vijayakanth, it set off wild rumours. His wife Premlatha indicated that politics was discussed at these meetings though the guests said they were merely asking after the health of Vijayakanth who had returned from America after treatment.

Now that it is almost certain, according to media reports, that the DMK cannot accommodate the DMDK, it is said the Dravidian major’s meeting this morning would finalise the seat-sharing among its existing alliance partners, Congress, CPI(M), CPI and IUML.
