Railway locomotive drivers on strike tomorrow -

The Railway Locomotive Engine Drivers Union says they will launch an indefinite strike from midnight tomorrow the 5th of March.
Speaking to NewsRadio Secretary of the Union Indika Dodangoda charged that engine drivers are being recruited outside the recruitment procedure.
Dodangoda said an age limit has been set at 45 for the recruitment of engine drivers, alleging that attempts to recruit persons who applied for the role in 2003 and 2004 are presently underway.
He claimed this was completely against the recruitment procedure and noted that the State Services Commission has granted approval to a request by the Railways General Manager the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in this regard.
Dodangoda added a Supreme Court order is being defiled in making these appointments.
He said failure to address the matter will lead to an indefinite strike action.
