Rathgama murders: A Chief Inspector arrested

The Former Officer in Charge of the Southern Special Crimes Investigation Unit Chief Inspector Saman Rohana has been arrested over the murders of the two businessmen from Rathgama.

Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara speaking to NewsRadio said the arrest was made by the Criminal Investigations Department.

A forest officer and a Police Constable who were arrested in connection to the incident were remanded till the 13th of March after being produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

The Police Constable is due to be produced at an identification parade.

Chief Inspector Saman Rohana today appeared in Court over the incident and was later arrested this evening by the CID.

A Police Inspector and a Police Sub Inspector attached to the Special Investigation Unit of the Southern Province are also in remand custody over the murders.

The two businessmen of Rathgama were reportedly kidnapped on the 23rd of January.

The Criminal Investigations Department following investigations revealed that the two businessmen were murdered at a residence in Akmeemana and their bodies burnt in a shrubbery area.
