Unions accuse the govt. of forgetting private sector employees

Trade Unions have accused the government of disregarding the well-being of private sector employees.

Convener and General Secretary of the Free Trade Zones & General Services Employees’ Union, Anton Marcus charged the government has not paid any attention to the concerns of the working class.

Speaking to NewsRadio, Anton Marcus said the government has considered any of its proposals when formulating the 2019 Budget. 

He noted 9 trade unions requested the Finance Minister to increase national basic salaries to Rs. 25,000 and remove taxes imposed on the Employees Provident Fund and Gratuity.

The General Secretary also threatened to unite the eight million strong, private work force against the government’s program.
