Carbon test report handed to Magistrate
A hardcopy of the report containing the results of carbon dating tests conducted by a university in Florida, US on the skeletal remains found at the Mannar mass grave have been handed over to the Mannar Magistrate’s Court.
Speaking to NewsRadio Judicial Medical Officer in charge of excavations, Saminda Rajapaksa said a discussion will be held on the report’s findings in an open court in the near future, following which the report will then be revealed to the public.
Rajapaksa noted the authority to do so lies with the Mannar Magistrate. Excavations on the mass grave have continued for 154 days.
The Judicial Medical Officer stated the skeletal remains of 335 victims have been discovered thus far, adding 319 remains have been removed from the site and placed in a special storage area at the Mannar Court premises.
He said at present 29 of the remains have been identified as belonging to children.
