Train cars for women only inaugurated today

The initiative introducing train compartments for women only, will be enacted from today onwards in lieu of women's day.
The initiative will be inaugurated at the Veyangoda Train station under the auspices of Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga.
Speaking to NewsRadio State Minister of Transport Ashoka Abeysinghe said the plan was introduced with the objective of addressing harassment and difficulties faced by women travelling in trains.
Accordingly the plan will be introduced on three trains plying along the main line, two trains along the coastal line and one train on the Puttalam route.
Furthermore identifiable signs boards will be affixed on the relevant train compartments indicating only women will be allowed to travel in them.
