2019 general elections: DMK, Congress begin talks on identifying seats

DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, is all abuzz with the interviewfor selection of candidates to contest in the 21 Assembly constituencies going on under party president M K Stalin and the seat-sharing committee beginning to hold talks on allotment of seats for alliance partner Congress for the 2019 general elections.

Tamilnadu Congress president K S Alagiri, former TNCC president K V Thangkabalu and leader of the legislature party K R Ramaswamy, who form the committee to discuss the identification of seats for the Congress, have already arrived at the DMK headquarters.

The DMK had firmed up its alliance with the Congress by giving away 10 seats to the national party out of the 40 that are available in Tamilnadu and Puducherry. The national party will contest nine seats in Tamilnadu and the lone Puducherry seat.

The talks today are to identify the nine seats that would be contested by the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections.

Stalin has already declared his support for Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate of the grand alliance stitched together for the upcoming polls.
