The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna vows to vote against 2019 budget

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says it will vote against the Second Reading of the 2019 Budget in Parliament tomorrow.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena said the group led by Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa will aim to defeat the 2019 Budget.
Meanwhile the Parliamentarian challenged backbenchers of the United National Party to attempt and defeat expenditure heads of the President.
MP Abeygunawardena noted if any Opposition MP that is not from the symbol of the elephant uses their vote in favour of the Budget, the public of respective districts should reject such persons from Parliament in future.
Also speaking during the media briefing Chairman of the Party Professor GL Peiris said the Committee led by MP Sarath Amunugama to expand authority of Provincial Councils is unsuccessful.
GL Peiris said the government may delay a General Election in future under the same measures that were used to delay the conduct of the Provincial Council Election.
He said the power of Provincial Councils cannot be increased since Provincial Councils do not exist since they have been abolished.
Peiris claimed even though the existing electoral system is criticised, the process of enforcing the new Electoral System has also been suspended.
