2nd Special HC to be declared open today

The operation of the second special high court-at-bar will commence today.The second special high court will be declared open by Minister of Justice Thalatha Athukorale at 10am within the Hultsdorp Court Complex.

Special High courts are being established to expedite the hearing of large scale corruption cases after obtaining approval from the Cabinet and Parliament.

Justices R Gurusinghe, Amal Ranarajah and Sashi Mahendran have been appointed to the bench.

Justice Ministry Monitoring MP Wijeypala Hettiarachi said the Attorney General will today file cases at the second special high court-at-bar.

MP Hettiarachi said the spatial limitations of the Hulftsdorp premises have been a prevailing issue.

He added it has been decided to utilise the Number 01 hall at the Hulftsdorp High Court complex in the evenings whilst other court proceedings continue in order to fast track proceedings.

The Parliamentarian said cases would accordingly be heard there and once case were heard daily, the judicial network would be further established by eliminating prevailing spatial concerns.
