One more held in Porur ATM robbery
A special team of city police arrested the main accused in the Porur ATM Robbery case in Bengaluru, Thursday.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ferrell (28), from Nigeria. However, the stolen amount has not been recovered from him.
Earlier, two persons, I Akyo Maye (27) and B Amoo (26) of Nigeria and a woman, S Creya (21) of Manimangalam were arrested by the city police for robbing Rs 10 lakh from an ATM kiosk near Porur last month.
Police said, the men came to the city to study Marine Engineering. Even as their visas expired, they wanted to stay back and look for jobs.
A special team of police have gone to Mysuru to arrest Ferrell, but he was eventually arrested from Bengaluru. The accused allegedly spent Rs 3 lakh of the stolen amount.
Three special teams of police carried out investigations with clues from CCTV cameras in the area and mobile phone signals. The incident took place on 7 February at 8.30 pm at a Canara Bank ATM kiosk.
Two employees – Devaraj (35) and Murali (30) – of a private cash management service were refilling cash at Canara Bank ATM. They were not accompanied by any security guard and did not close the shutter of the ATM.
Police said, the duo carried Rs 14 lakh and had already deposited Rs four lakh in the machine, when two men on a two-wheeler arrived at the spot wearing helmet and gloves, with their faces masked. The pillion rider entered the ATM and brandished a knife. He attacked Devaraj and fled with Rs 10 lakh. Investigations revealed that the two robbers were following the agents since afternoon.
