5 arrested for assaulting STF officers

Five people including three women have been arrested for assaulting and obstructing the duties of officers attached to the Special Task Force camp in Ariyale, Jaffna.

Police stated a group of people had behaved in a unruly manner, when a raid was carried out following an tip off received, pertaining to an illegal sand mining operation in the area.

Police also seized a truck and a motor bike during the raid.

The suspects aged 18, 27, 30, 33 and 34, are scheduled to be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today.

Jaffna Police are conducting further investigations.
