Power outages reported across the island

Power outages have been reported in several areas across the island due to the second generator of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant malfunctioning.

Speaking to  Media Director of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena said steps are being taken to restore the power supply to affected areas.

Jayawardena said the generator malfunctioned around 11 this morning due to a technical difficulty. He noted steps were taken to disrupt the power supply in several areas, in order to maintain the demand and supply of electricity and to maintain power generation.

Sulakshana Jayawardene said steps are being taken to repair the second generator, claiming the generator will be added to the National Power Grid at the earliest.

He said power disruptions were a temporary measure.
