Public asked to use electricity sparingly

The Media Director of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena urged all consumers to use electricity sparingly to due to the prevailing dry weather conditions in the country.

The Media Director said there has been a significant impact on the generation of electricity due to lack of rain in catchment areas.

Jayawardena added due to the dry spell that Sri Lanka is experiencing, the water level at hydro power plants are extremely low.

He added therefore, water levels at the six main water reservoir that are used to produce hydro-power electricity, Castlereig Kotmale, Randenigala, Victoria, Samanala, and Mausskale are only at 35%

The Media Director also noted the electricity demand had increased owing to the extreme heat.
