Expect more power cuts

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says the general public should expect sporadic power outages this morning, due to the malfunctioning of the second generator within the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.

Speaking to NewsRadio Media Director of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena said the defect in the second generator has been repaired and authorities are currently re-testing the generator.

He said the generator is likely to be added to the National Grid by this afternoon. Accordingly, the public has been told to expect further power disruptions this morning due to the high demand.

Jayawardena said the operation of the generator was suspended at around 11 last morning due to a technical glitch.

Power outages were reported in several areas across the island yesterday.

Media Director of the Ministry of Power and Energy, Sulakshana Jayawardena added that steps were taken to disrupt the power supply in several areas, in order to maintain the demand and supply of electricity and to maintain power generation.

He said power disruptions were a temporary measure.
