9 Iranians arrested with 600kgs of heroin

Nine Iranians have been arrested in Southern seas along with Rs.1 billion worth heroin.The Special Task Force when contacted by NewsRadio said the suspects had thrown out to sea around 500kgs of heroin worth Rs.5 billion when the raid was being carried out.

The raid was carried out by the Special task Force, the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Navy following a tip-off that a trawler carrying narcotics was out at sea.

A senior officer of the STF said the raid was carried out 10 nautical miles off the Southern seas.It has been revealed that the stock of heroin originated from Pakistan and arrived in Sri Lanka via Afghanistan. The suspects and the trawler have been brought ashore for further investigations.
