Keralite held for smuggling gold at TN airport

A passenger who arrived at Coimbatore from Sharjah by an Air Arabia flight was arrested and gold worth Rs 39 lakh seized from him yesterday.

According to media reports, the authorities based on a tip off stopped Jamshid of Kozhikode on 23 March and checked his baggage. Around 1,200 gm of gold was found hidden in a coffee-maker. Investigations revealed that the accused was involved in a gold-smuggling racket for a commission.

The man was subsequently arrested and enlarged on bail, said reports.
