Advocate claims there were 3 attempts to murder Nirmala Devi
There were allegedly three attempts to murder assistant professor Nirmala Devi, caught in a sex for marks scam, when she was in Madurai prison.
Speaking to mediapersons today, Nirmala’s advocate Pasumpon Pandian said he could not speak to her freely as her counsel when she was in prison.
It was after a long battle that Nirmala, who was teaching in Devanga College of Arts in Arupukottai and arrested by the Virudhunagar police on April 16 following allegations by four women students in the college, is out on bail now.
An audio clip did her in. In the clip of a 19-minute telephonic conversation, she is heard telling students, whose identities have not been revealed, that an ‘opportunity’ has come their way. If they do certain things for a very senior official of the Madurai Kamaraj University, of which the college is an affiliate, they would benefit financially and academically.
The clip created a furore on social media and made the issue a big controversy.
