After Tamil Nadu CM, BJP candidate gets bottle hurled at him while campaigning
Day after a slipper was hurled at the campaign vehicle of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at an election meeting, a man threw an empty glass bottle at the campaign vehicle of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Nainar Nagendran on Monday (April 1).
The incident happened while Nainar Nagendran was campaigning at Periyapattinam in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Nagendran is contesting elections from Ramanathapuram constituency in Tamil Nadu.
Incumbent MP A. Anwhar Raajhaa and BJP leaders D.Kuppuramu and K.Muraleedharan were also present at the event along with Nainar Nagendran.
An All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) functionary A. Udayanathan was injured in the attack while Nainar Nagendran and the Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan, who was accompanying him were not hurt.
A. Udayanathan was admitted to a government hospital for further treatment.
According to the police, an unidentified man hurled the bottle from a nearby building when the leaders had just begun campaigning in the locality. The district police has registered a case against an unknown miscreant.
Following the incident, the police tightened the security in the area.
Nainar Nagendran switched over to the BJP from AIADMK in 2017. This is Nagendran’s first elections to the parliamentary polls.
Nagendran is fielded against Nawazghani of the Indian Union Muslim League, an ally of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
