2019 polls: Flying squad officials seize money, stuff worth Rs 80 crore
The flying squad officials in Tamilnadu carried out a number of seizures of unaccounted money, gold and silver without documents during vehicle checks from last night till the wee hours of today. Sources said the value of the seized materials is estimated to be Rs 80.35 crore.
Officials are questioning two persons who allegedly belong to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) after flying squad found Rs 2.10 crore in their vehicle during a check at Perambalur-Ariyalur Road. The cash comprised Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes.
In another case at Ekkaduthangal in Chennai, a team of flying squad found jewellery worth Rs 75 lakh in a car.
The persons carrying the jewels could not produce any documents validating it and the items were sent to the city treasury.
In Madurai, flying squad seized 47 kg of gold, worth Rs 15 crore, near Iyer Bungalow.
At Adambakkam-Medavakkam Road, officials found 220 voter ID cards in a car. Subsequently, the police arrested and registered an FIR against the seven men transporting the cards.
