Liquor shops closed on the 13th & 14th April

The Department of Excise says all liquor shops will be closed on the 13th and 14th of April, in lieu of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Media Spokesman and Deputy Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said liquor shops with licenses to serve tourists will also be barred from selling alcohol over the weekend.

The Media Spokesman further noted 1,200 excise officers will be deployed to conduct raids on stores which continue to sell alcohol illegally.

Kumarasinghe said additionally raids will also be carried out by five special operation units.
