The Chitra Pournami festival begins 18 April at 3.30 am with traditional music performance. It will be followed by a special abhishekam and aaradhanai for Adhiparasakthi Amman at 4 am.
The devotees will then perform paadha pooja to Bangaru Adigalar at 9 am and welcome him. Annadhanam will be provided by Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Spiritual Movement vice-president, K P Senthilkumar, at 10.30 am.
The main event, velvi pooja, 19 April, will be initiated by Bangaru Adigalar at 5 pm, and Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Spiritual Movement president, Lakshmi Bangaru Adigalar, will oversee the proceedings.
At present, around 1,000 devotees are involved in constructing the 1,008 yaga kundams in the yaga saalai for the upcoming velvi pooja.
The yaga kundams will be made in different shapes like triangle, square, rhombus, pentagon, octagon and circle. There will also be special yaga kundams made in the shape of snakes and tridents (tirusulams).
The facade of the Siddhar Peedam will have a giant ‘Universal Wheel’ (Andaveli Chakram) which symbolically represents the protection given by Adhiparasakthi to the Universe.
The guru pooja that usually precedes a velvi pooja was conducted 7 April along with Vinayagar pooja and Sakthi pooja.
