Did Mangala have lawsuits filed against Gota? – SLPP suspicious!

MP Kanchana Wijesekara expressed suspicion that it was Minister Mangala Samaraweera and group who had filed lawsuits in a US court against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

He made this allegation during a media briefing held at the SLPP headquarters in Nelum Mawatha Battaramulla yesterday (18).

Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s sudden trip to the US was also viewed suspiciously by the SLPP.

The lawsuits were initiated regarding the killing of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga and the attacks on journalists who criticised the Rajapaksa regime.

The Centre for Justice and Accountability said that the lawsuit over the killing of Wickramatunga was filed on April 04th at a district court in California and a Federal Judge had unsealed the complaint on April 16th.

''Fear of Gota''

During the media briefing held yesterday, MP Kanchana Wijesekara said that the government is afraid of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa contesting the Presidential election.
On a previous occasion, Minister Mangala Samaraweera had noted that knowing the atrocities committed by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, he is indeed afraid of him.

He had said this during a media briefing held at the Finance Ministry on May 18th, 2018.

He had said that not just him, but even those on their own camp such as Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Kumara Welgama are also afraid of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

A journalist had asked the Finance Minister during the media briefing, “Gotabhaya Rajapaksa claims that you are afraid of him. Is this true and are you really afraid of him?”

Promptly responding to his question, Mangala Samaraweera said, “As I know what he did, indeed I am really afraid of him. Not just me, but many people in tis country are mortally afraid of him as they know what he is capable of. There is evidence regarding crimes committed, which suggest Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s involvement.”
