Family drowning: Chief Minister announces relief

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami condoled the death of five persons, including four of a family in the Cauvery river in Namakkal, Tuesday. Four of a family – identified as Saravanan, his wife Jothimani and their children Deepakesh and Sarakesh, and another woman Devi drowned and their bodies were later fished out.

The incident happened at Pothanur near Paramathivelur and the river has been receiving more water due to the recent rains with the water flow being swift. Expressing grief over the deaths, the Chief Minister announced a relief of of Rs one lakh to each of the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister urged people to abide by the rules of police and public works department on using designated spots to bathe in rivers.
