Easter Sunday attack: Allegations against Eastern Province Governor

TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran addressing the emergency regulations debate in parliament yesterday said the connection between the Governor of the Eastern Province M. L. A. M. Hisbulah and the National Thowheed Jamaath must be investigated. Sumanthiran said that that the connection between the Governor and this group is a huge issue, in relation to the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

He noted that all connections this terrorist group has had with various other politicians and previous defence officials must also be investigated

Hisbulla who was a National List MP was appointed as the Eastern Province Governor by President Maithripala Sirisena recently.

Who got the arrested suspects released?

Meanwhile, Minister Kabir Hashim said that the person who was responsible for having caused damage to Buddhist statues in Mawanella and Kandy last December had been arrested and later released.
It was reported that there was political pressure to have this person released.

Commending the action taken by Kabir Hashim MP Sumanthiran said that “The Muslim people have repeatedly complained about these extremist activities. Years ago, Muslim groups raised the issue of radicalization with government intelligence officials, and appealed that steps be taken to halt this process.Further, in 2017 they even held a demonstration in Kattankudy and asked that Zaharan be arrested. I must commend the brave conduct of Parliamentarian Kabir Hashim, who has set a great example for all of us.”
