Inquiry under way in child stealing case in Namakkal

Tamilnadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh has ordered an investigation into the case of child stealing in Rasipuram, Namakkal.

She said a primary investigation was under way into the issue.

An audio clip had surfaced recently of retired nurse Amudha speaking to a childless couple in Salem.

She claimed that she had been in the ‘business’ as a mediator for 30 years and had links with several orphanages. She quoted the price of newborn children based on their weight, skin colour and gender.

The male child, she said, would be sold for Rs 4 lakh while the girl child was being sold for Rs 3 lakh. In addition, Rs 70,000 would be charged for a fake birth certificate.
