No harbor in Sri Lanka will be sold or transferred to a foreign country - Port & Shipping Minister

Minister of Ports and shipping Mahinda Samarasinghe says that there is no intention to sell or transfer any port in Sri Lanka to any foreign country. Speaking at a media conference held at the head office of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the Minister said that all ports of Sri Lanka ports are owned by the Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA). He further stated that several ports of Sri Lanka have been developed with foreign investments.

Similarly, the government is ready to obtain foreign funds for the development of the Trincomalee harbor and it is not handing over the port to a foreign country, Minister Samarasinghe explained. He pointed out that although the previous government of Mahinda Rajapaksa has agreed to transfer of Sri Lankan ports to other countries, the present unity government will not do such a thing.
