Avishka removed due to allegations from the Selection Committee
The reason behind demoting Sri Lanka 'A' team coach, Avishka Gunawardena to a junior coach position is huge flak he earned from the cricket selection committee, a Sri Lanka Cricket official told 'Sri Lanka Mirror'.
He said that the SLC has decided to make a statement in this regard in the future.
Avishka has been accused of the incident of naming Ashan Priyanjana to Dambulla team who was earlier nominated for the Colombo District team in the 2019 Super Provincial One Day.
As Ashan had to experience discriminatory acts at the Dinesh Chandimal's Colombo team, assigned to the Dambulla team.
The selection committee, with the view of selecting middle order batmen, had decided to provide an opportunity to Ashan to play in the match between Colombo and Dambulla teams under the Colombo squad, but Avishka had informed that Ashan is ill, though he had been included in the squad as the 12th player and letting him field, as well.
In this juncture Ashan had to play for the Damubulla team and he scored 42 and 24 runs in two matches, building a one hundred runs partnership with Angelo Methews in a difficult situation.
However, cricket analysts say Ashan has failed to achieve much progress these days due to psychological pressure mounted on him.
Ashan was also the best player of the provincial cricket tournament last year.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Minister of Sports has received complaints that middle order batsmen Bhanuka Rajapakse and Angelo Perera have been discriminated by Avishka to secure position of some senior players.
It is also reported that another reason to remove Avishka from the position is his involvement in a match-fixing incident in the T10competition according to the ICC.
