Social Media ban lifted

The blanket ban imposed on the use of social media platforms in the country has been lifted. President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka to immediately lift the ban imposed on social media platforms including on the use of Facebook and WhatsApp in the country.
A blanket ban was imposed on the use of social media platforms on the 21<sup>st</sup> of this month after the Easter Sunday Attacks in which 253 persons have been killed.
Issuing a communiqué, the Department of Information said the TRC Director General has been instructed by the President to take prompt action to remove the ban.
The Information Department has also requested the general public to use social media applications responsibly considering the prevailing volatile situation in the country.
