NTJ’s biggest funder, Turkey: Also funded by Jewellery businessman

The intelligence units have commenced investigations to identify the local businessmen who had funded the National Thawheed Jamath organisation responsible for the Easter Sunday deadly suicide bombings.

The CID has already identified several persons who had funded these extremists. Among them are the Ibrahim family from Dematagoda and a jewellery businessman from Kuliyapitiya. Both parties are now under police custody.

These extremists have received most of their international funding through Turkey, it has been revealed.

The CID has received information that most of the funds had been received by a non-governmental organisation and they had also received large amounts of money from several other countries in an illegal manner.

These extremists had built a National Thawheed Jamath mosque in Batticaloa with these funds, the CID investigations have uncovered. In addition this extremist organisation had also purchased a large number of vehicles with these funds including cars, vans, Lorries and over 20 motorcycles. The CID has so far uncovered information on around 20 of such vehicles.
