Student attendance poor !

Student attendance is reported to be weak even today (07), since the reopening of schools yesterday, Sri Lanka Mirror learns.

According to student union leaders, the reason that student attendance is poor is the inability of the officials to convince the public that security at schools has been established.

Several attempts to contact Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam over the phone proved futile.

Yesterday the student attendance at schools was reported to be as low as 5%. The Education Ministry had admitted on its web site that the student attendance had been at a minimal level.

The lowest attendance had been reported from schools in Colombo.
