Suspect arrested over bribery attempt to free NTJ member

Police have arrested an individual who attempted to offer a bribe of Rs. 500,000 to the Officer in Charge of the Horowpathana Police, to release a member of the National Thowheed Jamaath Terrorist Organisation who is currently in remand custody.
The suspect was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption when informed by the OIC of the attempt, when the individual in question attempted to pay the OIC an advance of Rs. 250,000.
The suspect with ties to the National Thowheed Jamaath Organisation arrested earlier, remains in remand custody.
The relevant case is scheduled to be taken up for hearing on the 14th of May.
The bribe was offered with the aim of requesting Police to assist in efforts to release the arrested suspect on bail.
Accordingly the suspect arrested today on charges of bribery, is a 22 year old resident of Horowpathana.
Police noted the youth is a relative of the arrested NTJ member.
