Appoint Select Committee to probe allegations

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has requested Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya to appoint a Parliament Select Committee to determine the validity of accusations levelled against him by various factions following the Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking during yesterday’s adjournment debate in parliament, the Minister denied accusations against him. He said there are many accusations against him adding terrible accusations have been made to the point, of even pushing him towards being a terrorist.
The Minister stressed all allegations against him claiming his of links to terrorism are baseless, further remarking that SB Dissanayake has made several false claims against him and he therefore had taken legal steps against the MP at present.

The Minister charged that MP Dissanayake is engaged in cheap politics and taking revenge against the Minister with such lies, simply because he did not accept an invitation during the 52 day coup last year.
Minister Rishad Bathiudeen stressed that from the day he entered politics his assets and liabilities have never been concealed, adding further that he is ready to face any investigation.
Minister Bathiudeen meanwhile stressed that directing baseless allegations against him either intentionally or unintentionally would only create an environment, in which the real terrorists are protected.
He said whether knowingly or unknowingly those who level these accusations are ultimately protecting the real terrorists and the real extremists and taking the focus off the true perpetrators and pointing the finger at him instead.
He said that they are good Muslims, adding their God Allah does not call for or encourage terrorism or extremism. The Minister remarked that he was truly saddened by the loss of lives due to terrorism.
