Gutkha scam: CBI questions DGP (Elections) Ashutosh Shukla

The CBI has questioned DGP Ashutosh Shukla in connection with the gutkha scam that has been rocking Tamilnadu for a couple of years now.

The Election Commission, in a late night order 11 April 2019, had appointed IPS officer Ashutosh Shukla as the Director General of Police (Elections) in Tamilnadu.

According to reports surfacing here today, Shukla, who served as the Chennai Commissioner of Police in 2016, when the gutkha scam broke, was quizzed by the CBI 8 May in its office.

It is said his name found mention in the diary that was seized by the Income-Tax Department about payments made to police officials to continue the sale of gutkha in Tamilnadu after it was banned by the government.
