UP: Father, guilty of raping his 14-year-old daughter, commits suicide in Pratapgarh

A man on Monday committed suicide a week after raping his 14-year-old daughter. He had raped his daughter a week ago allegedly under the influence of alcohol and committed suicide out of remorse and guilt, police said. The accused hung himself at his house in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district.

A week ago, the accused had taken his daughter to a jungle to fetch wood where he raped his daughter on sword point. He even threatened her to not reveal anything to anyone. The girl, however, narrated the whole incident to her mother.

When the victim's mother confronted the accused, he threatened her too. The woman, however, escaped and narrated the whole incident to her brother. They both filed a complaint against the woman's husband. A case was registered against POCSO Act.

The accused fled the house but later returned in the wee hours of Monday. His brothers saw him entering the house and informed the police. When the police arrived at the victim's house, they found the accused hanging from a ceiling fan.

"Perhaps he committed suicide out of remorse and guilt. His body has been given to his family after autopsy" Surendra Kumawat, DySP, Dhariyawad was quoted as saying by a news website.
