How the JVP lost faith in the govt.!

The JVP has presented a no-confidence motion against the present government.

"A no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, the government and the Cabinet of Ministers" was handed over to Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya on Tuesday (May 21).

What is the purpose of this no-confidence motion? What do it contain?
1. When information was received by the Prime Minister, the government and the cabinet of ministers, and, committing criminal negligence, by doing or preventing from following acts, letting killing over two hundred and fifty Sri Lankans, injuring another 500, and damaging property due to bombings on the Easy Sunday that fell on the 21st of April 2019.

A) As Prime Minister stated in Parliament on May 8, 2019, a certain group of Sri Lankans had links with the ISIS Islamic extremist organization and failing to take proper action in that regard.

(B) Failure to take an action on various types of religious extremist organizations though the Muslim community had already informed the government about them.

C) When the court had issued arrest warrants on Saharan Hashim, who carried out a suicide bomb attack on the 21st of April 2019 and A.L.M Niyaz, who exploded himself on April 26, 2019 in Sindamarudu, those suspects had engaged in activities in Kattankudy publically, and being unable to arrest them and inability to implement the law properly.

D) When the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka informed the National Intelligence Unit that a group led by Saharan Hashim was responsible for damaging Buddha statues in Mawanella, on December 24, 2018, and the authorities had arrested several suspects in connection with the incident, failure to implement the law due to interferences of the Minister of the government.

E) Before these attacks, though activities of some Islamic extremist organizations in Sri Lanka had been divulged and especially joining some Sri Lankans with ISIS had been revealed, failing to take legal and protective measures.

F) The Prime Minister, who is a member of the Security Council, ignoring his basic responsibilities to the citizen, by not participating in the Security Council meetings.

(E) When foreign intelligence services had revealed information on a possible suicide attack targeting Catholic churched and hotels in Sri Lanka and information on persons, their telephone numbers, and national identity cards, failing to proper action.

Furthermore, though foreign intelligence services has uncovered information and warned on the attacks on April 21, 2019, failure to act on the information received.

On April 11, 2019, when DIG of the Special Security Division Priyalal Dassanayake had informed about the planned attack via the letter titled “Information of an alleged plan attack” and DIG / SPR / 126 / 4.19, targeting specific locations, mentioning, "Considering information given by the State Intelligence Bureau the leader of the National Thawheed Jamat is planning to launch a suicide attack in Sri Lanka. The letter had been sent to the following officials and not taking a proper action :

■ Director / Judicial Security Division
■ Director / Retired Presidential Division
■ Acting Director / Embassy Security Division (iv)
■ Acting Director / Retired Presidential Security Division (v)

2. After the attack on 21 April 2019, the Prime Minister and the Ministers attempted to pass the buck to the other parties without taking the responsibility, while the Ministers of the Government made irresponsible, contradictory and vague statements leaving country's ordinary people and the public confused and leaving insecurity situation.

3. Some ministers of the government had acted to obstruct the investigation process on the suspects on the Easter Sunday attack on 21 April 2019 and preventing the enforcement of law regarding such crimes.

4. When government had complete set of laws for the suppression of violent incidents or other forms of violence following the terrorist attacks on 21 April 2019, on 13 May 2019, in the Gampaha and Wayamba provinces, letting extremist groups engage in violent extremism such as killings, property damage and riots.

5. Failure to re-build the country's economic process, educational process in the country's schools and universities, as well as state and private sector by a month after the Easter Sunday attack.

6. Having failed to prevent the Easter Sunday attack, and failure of restoring the security situation and the civilian life of the country, allowing foreign elements to interfere in the internal affairs.
This document has suggested that the Parliament has lost confidence in the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka for the above reasons.
