Purchase of electricity from private sector a necessity

The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees Union says the purchase of electricity from the private sector has become a necessity amidst the power crisis.
Convenor of the Union Ranjan Jayalal speaking to NewsRadio said shortcomings in specialists at the Ministry of Power and Energy has led to this situation.
The Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday granted approval to purchase electricity from the private sector.
However Jayalal said they have not been informed of the decision. He also charged the issue was a major shortcoming on the part of the CEB, adding it is the responsibility of officials to meet the demand that is increasing daily.
He stressed this was not an unexpected increase in demand.
