KKS harbour tender process underway

Dredging of the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Harbour, under the USD 45.27 million Indian line of credit expansion and upgrading project, has been completed and the tender would be floated later this year, Ceylon Today learns. Currently, the breakwater and existing pier are set to be renovated and a new pier for commercial cargo handling is to be constructed. India extended financial assistance to expand and upgrade the KKS Harbour in the Northern Peninsula to turn it into a regional maritime hub attracting commercial activities.

The tender procedure is underway, but prior to that, several documents, including the detailed Project Report and an agreement on legal terms and conditions are being prepared for signing between the two Governments. The Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Ministry of Finance are involved in the project and the Indians are financially facilitating the construction and will hand over the state-of-the-art harbour to SLPA.
