1992 champions take on 2 time winners Windies

The 1992 world champions will take on the two-time winners West Indies in the second game of the 2019 Cricket World Cup in Nottingham tomorrow. The game is slated to get underway at 1500 Sri Lanka time.

The unpredictable Pakistan will be led by Sarfarz Ahamed during the tournament and for the first time in many years will depend on the batters to deliver another world crown. Their form leading up to the tournament has been poor, losing to England in an ODI series and then being humbled by minnows Afghanistan in the warm-ups.

In Fakar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik and skipper Ahamed the Pakistani’s have a solid batting line up while all-rounders Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan consistently delivered at the business end of the match. Hassan Ali will lead the pace attack which comprises of fit-again Mohamed Amir, experienced Wahab Riyaz and youngster Shaheen Afridi.

They look solid on paper but known to falter under pressure.

The dark-horses of the 2019 World Cup, the West Indies will be led by Jason Holder. They lost to Bangladesh thrice leading up to the World Cup but still will be feared by all their opponents due to their batting prowess.

The big hitting unit has been bolstered by the return of Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis and Andre Russell in the squad. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer have taken over the mantle in the batting department as Windies are steadily finding their feet back with the cricketing elites after some tumultuous years.

The Caribbean islanders with number of all-rounders at their disposal bat deep and showcased their pedigree by smashing 421 against the New Zealand attack earlier this week. They also possess a decent pace attack led by Shannon Gabriel.

The Windies can beat any team on their day with their devastating power hitting and skills but have lacked consistency in recent times.

Pakistan enters tomorrow’s game as favorites and has won five of their last six meeting with West Indies. With Trent Bridge pitch conducive for batting, the second match of the tournament is likely to be an high-scoring affair.

Prediction: Win for Pakistan
