Oil spill at sea between Wellawatte & Mount

The General Manager of the Authority Pradeep Turney said the oil has also washed ashore.He requested the public to steer clear of this stretch of the sea until further notice.

Turney said investigations are underway to determine whether it was a spill, a deliberate release to the sea or a leak from a ship that faced an accident.

The Marine Environment Protection Authority added that a special vessel of the Navy has been deployed to determine the reason behind the oil layer.
