Price of furniture to increase?

The National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection says the price of furniture could increase following the President Maithripala Sirisena’s statement that all carpentry shops will be suspended within five years.

Issuing a statement Chairman of the Movement Ranjith Vithanage said the government should clarify on how the demand for furniture will be met following the suspension of carpentry shops.

The Movement noted the public will not be able to afford imported furniture owing to the high prices.

The statement meanwhile urged the President to close the Central Environmental Authority and establish a new institution in order to execute measures to protect the environment

The Movement in its statement claimed the Central Environmental Authority lacks transparency.

Therefore the statement urged the Head of State to instead close large scale rice mills rather than inconveniencing the public by suspending carpentry shops.
