Strict laws in place to curb racism-Thalatha

Minister of Justice Thalatha Athukorala says the government had to introduce strict laws against individuals inciting racism through hate speech and fake news on social media platforms.

Speaking during an event in Nivithigala Minister Athukorala said certain factions are levelling baseless allegations in Parliament with the aim of gaining political mileage.

The Minister noted during the 2015 Presidential Election campaign the Opposition faction claimed that Mahinda Rajapaksa will be taken before the electric chair and charges with war crimes abuses adding it is not part of the country's law and will never happen in the country.
