"Sri Lanka’s Arab Spring : I am not Professor" – Nalin de Silva
Dr. Nalin de Silva said President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, all parliamentarians and officials should all take responsibility for the Easter Sunday attacks.
The reason being their failure to act on information that was made available prior to the attacks.
Similarly, he said the IGP and Defence Secretary too should be held responsible as they cannot escape from it.
Dr. de Silva made this comment participating in the Derana 360 programme. At the start of the programme, the presenter referred to Dr. Nalin de Silva as Professor, but he corrected her saying that he was not a professor.
Ranil-Maithri and the West
Dr. Nalin de Silva said that Maithripala Sirisena was appointed as the President and Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as Prime Minister in 2015 as a result of the Arab Spring.
He said it was the implementation of the Arab Spring to send Mahinda rajapaksa home and appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the official or unofficial President.
Explaining the Arab Spring, he said the aim was to appoint leaders who are in favour of the west and remove those who oppose.
He also said that not only the West, but even India was part of this.
Mahinda lost due to losing the Sinhala Buddhist votes
Dr. de Silva said that Mahinda Rajapaksa lost the election due to losing the Sinhala Buddhist votes.
He said Min. Patali Champika Ranawaka had sent monks to parliament and politicized the national movement, adding that this is not something that is part of Buddhist tradition.
Once the national movement was politicized, Mahinda Rajapaksa took control of it and it was destroyed. He said Mahinda had not paid heed to the national movement and by listening to various others, he lost the Sinhala Buddhist votes.
Maithri acts against common intelligence
Meanwhile, while asserting that the President tends to act against common intelligence, he reiterated that in the event of a no confidence motion he should be protected to safeguard the interest of the nation.
